VoWiFi

What is VoWiFi?

VoWiFi, or Voice over Wi-Fi, is a technology that allows you to make and receive voice calls over a Wi-Fi network instead of a mobile network. VoWiFi can improve the quality of your calls, especially in locations where the mobile signal is weak or unavailable. VoWiFi also supports seamless handover between Wi-Fi and 4G networks so you can continue your call without interruption.

Who can use VoWiFi?

Initially, we only offer VoWiFi for iPhones with iOS 17 or newer, on the KPN network. Our network can support all devices, but not all devices can use VoWiFi on our network. We are working with various mobile phone manufacturers, such as Samsung, to make it work on our network code. We have not yet tested all Android phones/models, so there may be some exceptions where VoWiFi is supported, but for now we are starting with iPhones.

In the summer of 2025, we will start testing VoWiFi for Android on the KPN network. Once these tests have been successfully completed, we will proceed with the rollout and will, of course, inform our partners.

Do users need to do anything to enable VoWiFi on their device?

To use VoWiFi, users must enable it in their phone settings.

  1. Go to Settings / Mobile network
  2. Choose your SIM card
  3. Turn on Wi-Fi Calling

Does VoWiFi work while roaming?

VoWiFi is not yet supported while roaming.

Are VoWiFi calls free?

Known issue

Currently, we are still seeing some users experiencing VoWiFi being disabled at random times and having to be re-enabled by the user. In these specific cases, this is caused by incorrect signaling in our network, and we are working with our supplier to resolve this issue as soon as possible. If the iPhone is not connected to VoWiFi, ask your users to check whether VoWiFi is still enabled in the settings menu.
